What does B.E.C.O.N. stand for?

Barricade (use what is available), Egress (escape), Control (plan, prepare, train, help others), Oppose (defend yourself if needed), and Notify (tell others).  These are non-sequential strategies that can assist you and your staff in making life saving decisions when seconds count.

Do I have to change our current policies and procedures after taking the BECON training?

NO, not at all. B.E.C.O.N. was developed to simply provoke proactive thought into your planning, preparation and training phases of your current Emergency Action Plan. B.E.C.O.N. aids with establishing sound, practical, reality based training ideas which will increase confidence in exercising life-saving measures in a crisis situation through hands-on exercises. B.E.C.O.N. aids in identifying those potential contingencies possibly never thought of before.  How do you know you or your staff are capable of doing what is needed if when that time comes?  Though it may look good on paper, how do you know your Emergency Action Plan works if you haven’t put it through a practical test?

What makes BECON different from all the other Active Shooter courses being promoted?

This is not you’re “online” or “death by power point” type of course. Our B.E.C.O.N. program is an all-encompassing active training program.  Meaning, we simply are not going to give you the information and send you on your way. We will teach you, show you, and have you perform strategies learned through a series of practical hands-on exercises that is complimented by a shot exposure from various weapons systems.  Additionally, we have a display table showing you low cost tangible items that you can utilize to upgrade your current security capabilities. You walk away with an increased level of confidence in responding proactively in a crisis situation coupled with strategic concepts on planning and training that increases your chances of survival and better your level of preparedness.
