It is no secret that Emergency Departments (EDs) are volatile places. People from all walks of life pass through these departments with a variety of emergent ailments and bring their stress, anxiety and anger along with them.

Many patients arrive at the ED having the worst day of their lives. In this occupation, we all want to help the best we can, unfortunately patients can be unpredictable due to their diagnosis, the loss of a loved one (grievance), or for a variety of other reasons. As administrators, having to update policy, review plans, implement training, and having to complete these tasks to meet deadlines, can be very overwhelming. Often times, we put more focus and effort on developing our Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and less focus and effort on putting that plan into action to identify weaknesses and gaps within our current plan.  Additionally, how do we meet the daunting task of training our 100+ employees/staff?  In most cases, we may lack experience in developing an effective training plan. B.E.C.O.N. can give you the guidance, tools and opportunity to train your staff. Our B.E.C.O.N. program gives you the ability to address these issues.

B.E.C.O.N. is an all-encompassing course that builds confidence and increases chances of survivability through a series of non-sequential options exercised in an emergency situation. We will address contingencies commonly not thought of, discuss physical security (armed and unarmed), law enforcement and their detainees, and how to mitigate unsafe situations more consistently. Our course provides you with a more holistic view of the Active Shooter/Killer that can assist in identifying potentially violent persons with additional information that will give you a deeper understanding of historical Active Shooter Events (ASE’s). We not only tell you how, we show you how. We then have you put exercise these options through reality based hands-on practical exercises that will result in you walking away with increased level of confidence to proactively and effectively respond to an ASE.

Through our 2 day B.E.C.O.N. “Instructor” certification course, you can now have the ability to train your entire staff at your leisure.  We can come to you and hold a 2 day B.E.C.O.N. “Instructor” certification course whereas a portion of your staff can attend the 1 day basic B.E.C.O.N. course and those you choose can stay for day 2 to become certified to teach the course.  With the B.E.C.O.N. “Instructor” certification, your instructors will have “log-in” access to our website and all the available resources to sustain your training needs.
